Uninstalling MSA 4.0 manually

Former Member

Hi,

We tried to upgrade MSA from 4.0 to 7.0. When we executed the setup to upgrade the binary files the upgrade failed due to problems with uninstalling MSA. Does anybody know the steps to uninstall MSA 4.0 completely manually?

Hello

Setup.exe should work during upgarde as it was well tested for 7.0 SP 04 for all the supported operating systems. Please verify the supported operating systems for mobile in the 7.0 SP 04 installation guide. I storngly belive that you must be using some other OS whcih we don't support.

Can you tell breifly describe about your landscape

Best regards

Hi Shankar,

We ran it on a Win 2003 Server machine which is only supported for the MAR and not for the MDW but we want to put both on one machine.

Hello Whity

It is not possible to have MRS + MDW in windows 2003 server machine as we currently don't support WIndows 2003 server.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps.

1. Take the MAR and IDES DB backup in MAR machine.

2. Get a fresh machine with WIndows XP.

3. Run the sepup.exe from Upgrade DVD. You can also install a local design time repository whcih can be discarded at later stage. Installation should go through fine. Also sugegst you to check the upgrade guide prerequistes section.

4. Restore the backup data bases.

5. in case of ARS_db, run the user management script 'UserManagementAfterDBRestore.sql' availabe at %mobilerootdir%\ARSUserManagement

Hi Shankar,

Are you sure I can run the setup.exe from the upgrade DVD on a fresh system? I thought in that case I have to use the installation CD.

Hello Whity

Setup.exe from Upgrdae DVD performs two tasks. one is uninstalling 4.0 and installing 5.0 or above. Whne you run Setup.exe in your new fresh machine, it will not be able to find 4.0 installation, skip that step and continue with 5.0 installation. In case if you are skeptical about shis step, i would suggest you to install 4.0 first in the fresh machine and then run the setup.exe from upgrade DVD. i am sure this would solve the problem.

Hi Shankar,

If I put back all 4.0 files it is in the first place a lot of work and I might run the risk that some applications are not being uninstalled properly as it was in my previous attempt. How about using the installation DVD instead of Upgrade DVD?

Hello Whity,

If you're installing the 7.0 Framework on a fresh machine, you may please so do from the Installation DVD.

Please make sure that the OS of this new machine is supported by both MAS+MAR, in case you need both MAS and MAR to be present on the same system.

Thanks,

Rohit

Hello Whity

If you have installation DVD available with you, all your issues are resolved. You just have to follow the below steps which i had mentioned in one of the previous replies

1. Take the MAR and IDES DB backup in MAR machine.

2. Get a fresh machine with WIndows XP, so that you install MAS + MAR in the same machine.

3. Run the sepup.exe from InstallationDVD. You can also install a local design time repository whcih can be discarded at later stage. Installation should go through fine. Also sugegst you to check the Installation guide prerequistes section.

4. Restore the backup data bases.

5. in case of ARS_db, run the user management script 'UserManagementAfterDBRestore.sql' availabe at %mobilerootdir%\ARSUserManagement

So far, i presumed that you don't have installation DVD and need to purchase the 7.0 installation license seperately and hence i am giving you the workaround steps to come to 7.0. If you have installation DVD, you can just follow the above steps which would resolve the issue.

Please make sure that system meets all hardware and software prerequistes as mentioned in the installation guide.

Best Regards

Shankar
