Hi Experts,

Please answer my below queries.

2. After the ABAP and JAVA stacks installation on separate database..how these two can be integrated and act as one system.

3.During SMD agent installation..Should we connect with the hostname of ABAP (or) Java stack?

I would appreciate all your help and inputs...

Thanks in advance

Hi Daniel

You could join the SAP Enterprise Support Value Map for SAP Solution Manager setup to learn more:

https://support.sap.com/support-programs-services/offerings/enterprise-support/academy/valuemaps.htm...

Otherwise, transaction SOLMAN_SETUP provides guidance, each section / step is accompanied with documentation, inside the product.

Best regards

Tom

Hi Daniel

SOLMAN_SETUP takes care of this in step 2 of infrastructure configuration - set up java connectivity.

SolMan doesn't really use the AS JAVA part much, it's mainly for agent connectivity reasons that it is still there.

Hi Daniel

I've been overly busy with customer projects so didn't really spent much time on SCN lately as you've noticed. Glad to see Stijn gave you all the answers you need 🙂

Best regards

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the detailed reply..

Do we need to do the SMD agent installation while ABAP stack (or) JAVA stack installation.

Please clarify this part..

Thanks in advance

Hi Daniel,

you don't need to install the SMD (DAA) agent during install of ABAP or JAVA, because you first have to setup your JAVA on how to authenticate your agents (basic of certificate)

Like Tom said, after the installation, run SOLMAN_SETUP and there will also be a section where you are asked to install the diagnostic agents.

Please read through the installation guides first, because a lot of these questions are already answered there.

Rgds,

Stijn

Hi Daniel

1. Should we install solution manager 7.2 from the XML stack of maintenance planner only (or) normal method can be followed?

You need to download the installation packages from support portal (what you call normal method? and use SWPM to install) regardless of using maintenance planner or not but you need to plan through maintenance planner anyway in order to update 7.2 to SP03 because the installation packages contain 7.2 SP02 files so you can as well start directly by planning the installation through the maintenance planner. In theory you can pass the XML along with the installer (SWPM) to make SWPM call up SUM and do the patching already but it gave me problems when trying to install 7.2 SP03 on a HANA DB using this method so I'm not sure if this is currently supported by SAP or not (didn't yet investigate if this is root cause of issue that I bumped into) so I would say, go for installation of 7.2 SP02 with SWPM and do the stack update afterwards using the XML stack file and SUM as it seems to be the safer option right now (at least from my perspective).

2. After the ABAP and JAVA stacks installation on separate database..how these two can be integrated and act as one system.

Follow through the different installation guides (https://service.sap.com/instguides) and afterwards run SOLMAN_SETUP to configure the SAP Solution Manager system and then you'll have this integration automatically by following through the different steps.

3.During SMD agent installation..Should we connect with the hostname of ABAP (or) Java stack?

The java stack takes care of agent connectivity (one of the few reasons why the java stack is still there)

Best regards

Tom
