SAP recommendations for datasource enhancements

We all know that CMOD is a familiar way of enhancing our standard datasources, however most of the companies are preferring to go for BADI (ABAP objects) as an enhancement tool SO from BI perspective what is the way forward for enhancing our standard datasources. Will SAP support CMOD/SMOD in future which one dose SAP actually recommend us to do for enhancing datasources.

What is the significant difference between BADI and CMOD, is BADI easier to maintain than CMOD from support point of view. Your views, suggestions, notes or any links that can educate in detail are highly appreciated
