Crystal Report 'Logon Failure' Issue


Hi everyone ,

We are having a Windows Forms desktop application that uses Crystal Reports to display information from a SQL database. It was working fine at Client’s side for past 6 months. Recently, a windows patch update was applied and since then the report is not coming up.

Code is as follows:

With crConnectioninfo

.ServerName = <<DSN Name>>

.DatabaseName = <<Database Name>>

.UserID = << User ID>>

.Password = << User Password>>

With gcrxReport.Database.Tables(intTableCounter)

crtableLogoninfo = .LogOnInfo

crtableLogoninfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo


.Location = databasename.dbo.tablename

In Client’s machine, we get the below error:

Err: -2147217393 - Logon failed.

Details: [Database Vendor Code: 18 ]

Error in File xxx.rpt:

Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters.

Details: [Database Vendor Code: 18 ]

They have installed:

SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework (32-bit)


.NET Framework: 4.6.1

DB Server: SQL 2016

We have read most of the resolutions on internet, but none of the problem is similar to what our client is facing, where in it was working fine for quite sometime has stopped working after some updates being applied. We have also tried reinstalling crystal report runtime.

Could you please help us to get more information out of the error mentioned above and a possible resolution.?
