Hello All,

I am having some doubts regarding SP.

1.Why we need to perform SPAU & SPDD during the time of patching??When & why we should do the Modification adjustments??

2.Why we apply SP from 000 client & not from any other client??What special feature does 000 client have other clients??If we do a client clopy with sap_all profile from 000 client to my customized client 100 can I do SP from 100 client??

Hi Scott,

000 -> SAP Standard Client

010 -> Business client which can be modified as per your needs.

After a Client copy with the SAP_ALL profile your client 010 would be available for any changes or modification as per your business standards.

SAP always recommends to use 000 client for applying support packs and no changes should be performed in 000 client

Thanks,

Hi,

Your first question is already been answered...

2. Support packs access SAP Objects. Since we configure stms in 000 client and consolidation route is used to transport sap standard objects so we need to apply patches only through 000 client.

Hi,

Even if you do Client copy you can not apply SPs from any other client. 000 is most updated client and SAP Object activation can happen only from 000.

Hi Scott,

When you apply a package, a large number of objects are changed.

If you have applied any OSS notes to objects in your system, the hot package may overwrite these objects.

SPDD is used to identify dictionary objects

and

SPAU (repository objects), will identify any objects where the hot package is overwriting changes you have made through OSS notes.

After the initial upgrade happens, we have to do adjustments from SPAU/SPDD to maintain or reset the changes. That is, from the list of objects in SPAU/SPDD, you have to either carry forward the changes to the new version, by choosing the option ADOPT CHANGES or RESET TO ORIGINAL.

Thanks,

SPAU/SPDD is required to do only if you have made customizations. SPAU is for code modifications and SPDD is for the data dictionary object like table definition. You need to start patching only from client 000.
