Testing data

Dear sirs,

I would like to know if it is possible to delete data in a system (used as test) and copy the data from another system (production). I need to test using new data but must not delete the whole system not to delete the unfinished development.

A guy who is doing basis and administration for our system said, it is only possible to copy the whole system (copy production to test as new instance, means delete the whole old test system).

Can you please tell if this is not possible or if yes, how to do this?

I would appreciate any help, have a nice day everybody, Otto

Thanks, looks useful. But... you have answered my second question, I really appreciate that, but could you plase clarify a litlle more about the B1 administration for me? I am still a bit confused.

- If I need a test system, how should I get one? What exactly and how must be copied to get one? I copy a database? I copy DB and he B1 installation? How do you do that?

- If I would use the proposed copy addon, is that licensed? Where I can get this?

- What is the connection between the B1 DB and SQL under that? Would it be possible to query the SQL DB directly. For example to create a web report? I do understand that there are services (DI etc.) to achieve this, but I ask to get an overview what is the difference if I would query DB in B1 reporting and SQL DB from outside B1.

- Can you clarify how does multiple "companies" on a single server work? I have few years experience with the "big" SAP ERP, I am used to work with clients on one SAP instance, and I don´t know what is the equivalent in B1. Multiple dabases on DB server and single B1 install? Or not?

- Bonus question at the end: I need to help the customer to roll out his B1 outside the country. How can this be done? I need to buy a new server and install a new B1? With another regional setup? This is connected with the previous question - on what levels can I customize etc.

Your helps is very much appreciated. As you can see in another threads:)) Thank you very much, my pleasure, Otto

Hello Otto,

You can create a new database from SAP B1 System (empty) than you can use the copy express to copy the basic settings.

- If I would use the proposed copy addon, is that licensed? Where I can get this?

This is a part of the SAP B1 out of the Box Solution

There is a direct coonection. Xcelsius and Crystal Report is using direct connections.

Totally different.

One SQL server in one timezone can support different localitazations (CZ, HU, SK, PL, DE, A, etc) in same version (2007A, 2007B). Please read the licensing information of SAP B1 to order multi localization license (it will change in the future).

I have build up a lot's of systems like this, and made a rollout in EU, Asia, Australia

You can use in this volume Citrix servers (x64),and One Database server (x64). Take care B1 is a FAT client, so citrix and db server must be connected in high speed network (100MB or 1GB).

Iside citrix, there the local (regional) settings can be customized by users.

János.

Hello,

In 2007 version you can use copy express addon to copy data between databases... But it is not copies everything... but can be used.

Data cannot be deleted...
