Data transfer from ECC to BW for ODP enabled extractors

Dear Experts,

I am facing a strange performance issue while extracting data from ECC to BW.

My Datasource is ODP enabled and the source system is pointing to 2 different BW targets - BW1 and BW2.

BW2 makes use of ODP adapter. When the data is extracted for BW2, even the ECC extraction job is completing within 700 secs, it is taking around 2400 secs for the data load to get finally completed in BW2(info package completion). I do not see any TRFC or IDOC getting generated or stuck in this case.

Whereas when i am extracting the same set of data in BW1 system, which makes use of SAPI. It is working completely fine.

Kindly help me in understanding this behavior, in case anyone has faced any similar issues earlier.

  • Thanks for your response Andrey.

Could you please let me know then how the data is transferred from ECC to BW in ODP framework.

I am coming from the point that at times, when the processing is stuck in SAPI based extractors, we use to check for any stuck TRFCs and IDOCs and in case there are any, we process them manually.

Are there any similar kind of checks we can do while making use of ODP enabled extractors?(excluding IDOCs as you have mentioned above).

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    ODP doesn't use IDOCs.

You can see in transaction ODQMON (in source system) extraction process (job, units etc.).

    BR,

    Hi Shadab Hasan,

Please try to analyze by note:

2520897 - ODP package size and data load performance

If it doesn't help, I suggest you report an incident to SAP and open your systems. Our expert will login to check directly.

    Best regards,

    Dear Customer,

Suppose the data volume is the same, there're 3 aspects you can check:

    1. In ERP system, run transaction SMQS -> check if Max.Conn for the BW1 and BW2 are the same.

    2. In ERP system, run transaction WE20 -> check if the settings to partner BW1 and BW2 are the same.

    3. In BW system, check if the number of dia work processes in BW1 and BW2 are the same.

    Best regards,
    Maggie

    • Thanks for your response Maggie.

I checked my ERP system and below are few pointers.

      1. In ERP system, run transaction SMQS -> check if Max.Conn for the BW1 and BW2 are the same. - No connection for BW2 system exists in ERP.

      2. In ERP system, run transaction WE20 -> check if the settings to partner BW1 and BW2 are the same.- No Partner Profile for BW2 system in ERP. But there is partner profile for ERP system in both BW1 and BW2 which are same.

      3. In BW system, check if the number of dia work processes in BW1 and BW2 are the same. - No differences found.

Also could you please let me know how exactly ODP extractors transfers the data to BW. Does it makes use of TRFCs and IDOCs concept as similar to SAPI adapters.

Hi Shadab Hasan, have you compared with the ODQR jobs which load data to the different BW system?

    • Hey Maggie,

I am using ODP framework for only BW2 and have checked the ODQR job for the same. The job is completing pretty quick but the data transfer is taking a bit of time.

This is not the case with BW1 system, where SAPI is being used. The amount of time BIREQU job is taking in ECC is approximately same to how long it is taking for the Info package to complete.
