Hi
I am interested in installing BO Enterprise product. The functionality that I am looking for is to use the crystal reports part to run adhoc reports on a R/3 ABAP only system (running on solaris)
I have gone through some guides and documents and this is what I have
These are what I plan to install in the server
====================================
1. BO Edge or Enterprise XI 3.1
2. Install the Java Connector
3. BOBJ int.Kit for SAP Solutions XI 3.1
These are what I plan to install in the desktop client
=========================================
1 Crystal Reports Server 2008 or Crystal Reports 2008 Visual Advantage or Crystal Reports 2008
Question:
Which one of these should be installed?. I found these from the free trial link in SDN http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
What would be the difference between these?.
The above link only has SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 (Server part), but does not include the integration kit. Where I can find a free trial of that?
The marketplace does not have a 3.1 version of the BO Edge Server. What it has is BOBJ EDGE INT. SAP SOL. XI R2?
Where can i find the 3.1 version to buy (this is not there in the SDN link)?
The download page in marketplace has these versions of crystal reports
Crystal Reports Visual Advantage 2008
Crystal Enterprise 10
Crystal Enterprise 8.5
Crystal Enterprise 9
Crystal Reports 10
Crystal Reports 8.5
Crystal Reports 9
Which among these is suitable in my case?
2. SAP GUI
3. Integration Kit for SAP Solutions XI Release 3.0 (Desktop components)
SOME BASIC QUESTIONS
=====================
Is the above sequence of installation correct?
Are there any system requirements as such in the form of CPU / Memory for the BO Enterprise server? Can this be installed on a server where a SAP instance is running?
Can the structure (skeleton) of the reports (designed) from the desktop client be stored in the desktop or does it get stored in the BO Enterprise Server.
When a end user wants to login to crystal reports to create / run some ad-hoc reports this would be through the SAPGUI or would this be through the web browser?
thanks
ravi

Hello Ravi,
Crystal Reports is used for canned reporting or hi-fi formatted reports. It is not suitable for ad-hoc querying or reporting. Check the "Selecting the right reporting tool" document on SDN to learn more about when to use Crystal Reports and when to use WebI reports.

Sri
