How to start maxdb instance.

Hi,

I installed the content server and maxdb.

1- After install of content server and maxdb, how do I find out the maxdb is running or not?

2- Is there a command to check status of maxdb instance and name of database of maxdb?

3- How do I start maxdb with dbmcli?

4- What is the parameter file of maxdb and it's location (just like Oracle has a parameter file init.ora)?

Thanks,

haleem

    Hello ,

    1) Please see the MAXD documentation at www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/maxdb

    You could Register Now for Free Online Training About SAP MaxDB.

    See the SAP note 767598 to get more information on MAXDB documentation.

    Please see the MAXDB library at http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/default.htm

    < SAP MaxDB Library 7.6 -> Tutorials >

    2) What is database version?

    A) After install of content server and maxdb, how do I find out the maxdb is running or not?

    Please see the anser at SAP MaxDB Library 7.6 -> Glossary -> Operational State

    B) Is there a command to check status of maxdb instance and name of database of maxdb?

    You could run the following commands, for example :

    dbmcli db_enum

    dbmcli -d <SID> -u <dbm-user>,<pwd> db_state

    < SAP MaxDB Library 7.6 -> Glossary -> Operational State >

    C) How do I start maxdb with dbmcli?

    Login to the database server, for example, connect to the database as DBM user & run:

    < By default SAP installation, dbm-user: control & pwd : control >

    dbmcli -d <SID> -u <dbm-user>,<pwd> db_admin

    < to start in admin mode >

    or

    dbmcli -d <SID> -u <dbm-user>,<pwd> db_online

    < to start online >

    < SAP MaxDB Library 7.6 -> Glossary -> Start >

    D) What is the parameter file of maxdb and it's location (just like Oracle has a parameter file init.ora)?

    The parameter file is the binary file located in the config MAXDB directory.

    You could use the dbm command param_directgetall to display the value of all parameters

    from the database parameter file, for example.

    < SAP MaxDB Library 7.6 -> Glossary -> Parameter File >

    Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina

      Hello Haleem,

      Now you know the password of the control user :).

      On questions 1,6::

      Yes, you could go at http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/default.htm and see the "SAP MaxDB Library 7.6"

      Also in tools < dbmcli > you could see the syntax with good explanation of all dbmcli commands.

      On question 2:

      Please see info about the SAP Content Server at: service.sap.com/contentserver

      < See "FAQs SAP Content Server" questions/answers >

      You created the new thread concerning your MAXDB questions 3,4, 5::

      Please close this one to avoid any further misleading information.
