Visual Composer - Upgrade Consideration

Good day,

We are running Visual Composer 7.0 and would like to know if anyone has information from SAP on:

1.) End of life - We have had numerous "factual" opinions that Visual Composer is nearing end-of-life and as such we should not invest in or spend effort on solutions to develop using the toolset. In each of the cases I have refuted this by asking for evidence with none forthcoming. I would like to now once and for all lay these to rest with an official response from SAP to ensure the subject no longer keeps perpetuating. If anyone has any information in this regard or can recommend where I can go to obtain it would be appreciated.

2.) Visual Composer component upgrade - Is it possible to only update the VC components from 7.0 to 7.1(2) without any dependencies or impact to other Portal/Java components or is this not possible, as I would like to update VC only in our environment considering there is a sizable jump in the toolset features between those versions? The reason I am asking is that I am faced with having to hold off until May next year for this to be deployed with a support pack upgrade and would like to bring this forward if I have no impact or dependencies on other components being upgraded simultaneously.

Thanks in advance for your support and consideration,

Douglas Volkwyn.

Hello Douglas,

Visual Composer is definitely not nearing its end of life. You can refer to [this blog|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/15801] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken]; for more details on the upcoming versions, specifically to the following paragraph:

With the release of Visual Composer 7.2, we have completed the main product road map and Visual Composer has become a fully-supported mature SAP development environment. In our next releases we will be focusing on quality, stability, and usability enhancements, together with limited scope features derived from customers' specific requirements.

As for the upgrade path, currently CE is offered as a side-car. This means you install it on a separate server which can be used both for developing and as the runtime of the developed applications. Currently, there is no upgrade path from 7.0 to 7.1 and up (although it is planned). A migration path for Visual Composer 7.0 models to 7.1.1 (Enhancement Pack 1 for NW CE 7.1) is available as an internal tool in Visual Composer, so this means that you can migrate and convert your 7.0 models to 7.1.1 in case there is a need to enhance them.

I hope this answers your questions. If not, please let me know

Thank Netanel, it is good to gain visibility and be assured that VC is gaining significant momentum in the SAP stable. Appreciate the feedback.
