Hello,
Is it possible to do a technical upgrade from 4.70 to ecc 6.0 without doing the unicode conversions? we are trying to do a cost efficient way of doing an upgrade.
thanks.
One additional thought:
If you plan to implement a Java system later (e. g. an Enterprise Portal) the backend system must be Unicode. However, you can do the Unicode migration with a later step.

> BTW - MDMP is allowed for ERP, with some limitations and with SAP confirmation.
Not officially:
Note 852235 - Release Restrictions for SAP ERP 6.0
<...>
MDMP support: SAP uses and recommends Unicode as the standard technology to cover multilingual language requirements. Up to now, only SAP R/3 fully supported MDMP. Due to the existing limitations or risks, as of SAP ERP 6.0 SAP no longer supports MDMP.

hello,
i executed program RSCP0018. in one of the output, it says the following:
profile parameters < kernel>
application servers: CCC_INTU
Profile Val: Unicode.
This is a 4.70 system. Does this mean it is already unicode compliant and we no longer need to do a unicode migration during the technical upgrade?
hope anyone can provide inputs. thanks.
I executed UCCHECK. The result shows:
Check a Program Set for Syntax Errors in Unicode Environment
Could not determine program name:
FUGR GRWT SAP SAP
Could not determine program name:
PROG MLDB SAP SAP
There are only 2 errors. Why is this so when I checked SYSTEM->STATUS under unicode is says NO.
Is there an error? thanks.
Any new installations of ERP 6 (from scratch) have to be unicode, therefore you will need to do also unicode conversion.

If you are running in single code page that there is no issue, But if you are system is MDMP you must need to convert to unicode first.

Absolutely possible .....
You can perform,
1. Only technical upgrade
2. Technical Upgrade and Unicode Conversion separately
3. Conbined Upgrade and unicode conversion
4. Only Unicode conversion
