Slow Performance/Large XML file Problem

Hi - a collegue of mine copied Form/Interface PRTV_EXPENSE_FORM (via tx SFP) and customised it for our client. The custom version visually looks very close to the original BUT the custom version is HUGE compared to PRTV_EXPENSE_FORM (which is 3548KB) - a whopping 48176KB. Obviously this causes the output of this PDF to take quite some time.

I'm trying to decrease the size, increase the performance but i can't seem to find out what the issue is - I've systematically removed parts of the layout to try and find out the offending ones but these only seem to save a few KBs (I've also removed the logos in case they were the issue).

I'm now basically left with the page outline now and its still over 44000KB - any ideas where this additional usage might be hiding ?

thanks,

Sean

do you use embedded pictures??

do you use fonts that are embedded??

did you deactivate unnecessary fields of your context??

Hi Norbert - there was a logo in there but i removed it to see if it would make a difference and i have de-activated all of the fields I'm not using...

Not sure about the fonts - how can i tell ?

cheers

some fonts like arial, courier, times, timesnewroman..will not be stored in the document, but others will. Check which fonts you are using. I'll be looking if there's a summary visible for a document of used fonts inside.

Hi - you were right, there were some fields with another font in there - Verdana.

Since the standard form this was copied from used Arial, I set all of the fields to Arial as well. Didn't change the size though.

Perhaps once you've embedded something such as a font, you just can't get rid of it ?

I ended up copying and pasting the structure into a fresh form - and now its less than 2 meg (the standard was 3.5) - where the copy I'm trying to shrink is 44.

I wasn't the original developer on this custom form so i don't know what the original fella was doing......

cheers
