Dear All,
We are facing several issues with long running Hana Calculation Views Activation - esp., with the models which are complex and have multiple EDAM models within the view (along with several dependencies). Activation is typically running for about 15-20 mins for such views. We are working on reducing its dependencies and on also optimising the model.
However, when I checked for Activation traces - I came across below statement in the trace : "Activation is performed with activation mode cascade one-phase.". Can you please help me in understanding what it meant please ? If it suggests that Activation is being performed in a single serial process ? If by anyway we can parallelize ? I ask this question because, I see in few traces from SCN blogs that activation for other clients runs in two-phases - with a message that states : "Activation is performed with activation mode cascade two-phases."
Any parameter configuration in Hana that enables it to choose the activation to be performed in one or more phases please ?
Would appreciate any inputs you may have on this.
Thanks
Hari
Hi karan.semwal2 ,
even after installing HANA Studio 2.3.50 64 bit for Windows I could not reproduce your issue. Are you using a different operating system?
As an alternative to the flag you could unselect all the validation rules under Window --> Preferences:
As general information: HANA Studio has been deprecated for quite some time now (SAP Note 2465027). In addition SPS04 will be out of maintenance in June (SAP Note 2378962)

Jan

Hi Karan,
there should not be any additional steps neccessary. Could it be that your HANA Studio is very old?

Jan

Hi Karan,
do you use the activation via the quick view perspective? Can you paste how your activation dialog looks like?

Jan

Hi Hari,
you can select different activation modes in the activation dialog offered in Quick View:
The different modes have no influence on the parallelization but on the reaction to inconsistent dependencies.
Interesting in this context might be SAP Note 1732983 - SAP HANA Modeler - Bypass validation during Activation.
For performance improvements of activations with certain HANA releases see SAP Note 2411552 - Performance optimization for HANA Modeler deployment.
In general you can achieve faster activation times by switching from Calculation View mode "Cube" to "Default". This requires, however, that you do not need to access the metadata of these views. Many front-end tools need this data. If you are not exposing a view for direct reporting you should be fine with the change.
If you move to the new deployment environment HDI (see deprecation node of the old repository: SAP Note 2465027) you can also expect better concurrent deployment behaviors.
Best,
Jan
