MDM Console and Data Manager Access

Former Member

Dear All,

We are in the process of implementing SRM 7.0, and are using MDM 3.0. We have installed the MDM Server, the Import Manager, MDM Console and MDM Data Manager.

We are struggling a little to understand how the user can access the MDM Console and MDM Data Manager to manage, configure and maintain the catalogue. Do these components have to be installed on the required user desktops, or are they accessed directly via the SRM Portal.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Many Thanks

Claire

Hi,

MDM client tools should be installed in catalog contents admin's PC. It is Client-Server deployment.

Employee can search catalog items via SRM Portal without MDM client tools.

Hi Masa

Does this mean that someone with any of the following roles would require a client server deployment?

Catalog Content Approver

Catalog Manager

UI Configuration manager

Thanks

Hi,

UI Configuration manager does not need MDM client tools. UI configuration has Web UI.

Approval can be done without Data Manager if you set up Portal contents.

Hi Masa

Just to confirm my understanding in a couple of areas:

1. We are wanting to import the content of our existing REQUISITE catalog into MDM. We can extract the data from the REQUISITE catalog into a spreadsheet. Am I correct in thinking that we need to use the Data Import Manager component to carry out the required mapping of fields, and to import the spreadsheet into MDM?

2. Anyone in our organisation who is responsible for uploading/updating spreadsheets of catalog data into MDM has to have Data Import Manager installed on their PCs. Or, is Data Import Manager installed centrally, with the application accessible via a URL ?

3. Data Manager - same question as (2)

Thanks

Hi,

1) We use Import manager to import the spreadsheet data. You can map the fields in Import Manager.

Once the data is imported ,you can see the data in Data manager. You can edit ,update certain records, validate them in data manager.

2)Person resposible for importing data must have Import manager and Data manager installed on PC.You can even automate the import process.Apart from this if you have any other role like approver then you can install Data manager only for them to approve via data manager

End Users can search using SRM .they dont need the clients intalled on their system.

Hi Claire,

1. Yes to Import the data, you have to use the Import Manager.

2. Yes, the person who is doing the upload has to have the Import Manager on her/his PC, or have to have a link to the Import Manager program, which can be installed on a central server.

3. Yes, the same as by Import Manager
