Hello All,
We are using SAP Cloud Platform Document Center to store word, pdf and excel documents. And the Document Center is integrated with SAP Cloud Platform Portal.
Now we are looking for an option to search inside the documents available in Document Center (the search operation must look for pattern inside the documents).
Could you please help us how can we build this solution? Is there any SAP's standard solution available ? or if we have to build a custom solution, what is the best approach?
Best regards,
Umapathi Patana

Hi Umapathi,
SAP Document Center client applications do not provide content search UI capabilities yet.
Also Document Center depends on the full text search capability provided by the underlying repository.
Document Service for e.g does not provide full text search so my documents and shared documents does not have content search.
However you can connect an ECM system with content search capability as a corporate repository to Document Center and then use your own UIs or CMIS APIs to leverage content search.
Please let me know if you have any further questions on this topic.
Best Regards,
Saurav

Hello Saurav,
We have all the documents (pdf, word and excel etc) stored in Document Center repository (SAP Cloud Platform CMIS repository). Now, our customer is looking for content search on all the documents which are stored in Document Center repository. How do we do the content search? are there CMIS API's to do the content search? or are there any external applications to be used to do content search or what is the SAP recommended approach?

Hi Umapathi,
I believe what you want to do is what is described here.
I am not aware of a cloud-only solution that would allow you full text indexing of documents with searchable options.
You could use Machine Learning services from Leonardo to classify the documents you have on CMIS, but that would require you to build a solution of your own.

Ivan

Hi Umapathi,
SAP Document Center is a CMIS compatible Repository. Therefore you can use the CMIS Java library to consume the repository and query its contents. Querying the repository can be accomplished by issuing SELECT statements that has similar syntax with SQL queries.
Here you can find Java and JavaScript examples @ help.sap.com. The Java exemple would mean you will be developing your own REST service with yout own "logic" to it. The JavaScript example shows you how you can re-use the cmis REST api to issue query statements.
You could install the CMIS Workbench application and connect it to your Document Center/Service to "test" your query statements. I've never tested this version of CMIS Workbench that was modified by SAP.
Best regards,
Ivan
