Info required regarding SSM 7.5

Dear Gurus ,

We are implementing SSM 7.0 for a client. The client requires Single Sign ON (SSO) with Business Objects. I heard the SSO with SSM 7.0 is not possible. Should we go with SSM 7.5 ? The client requires SSM 7.5 to be out of the testing phase (Beta version ). Is SSM 7.5 out of the testing phase ?

Else , we require some patch/help from SAP to implement SSO with BO for SSM 7.0 SP09.

Thanks,

Vijay

Hi Vijay,

SAP BusinessObjects Strategy Management 7.5 is in general availability since September 15th, after completing a sucessfull ramp-up phase! You should consider the upgrade to this version!

With this version you can choose to use either UME or BOE as the central user management tool, while in the previous version only UME was possible.

Dear Ricardo,

Thank you very much for your reply. I have a few doubts regarding the installation of SSM 7.5 . I will explain my scenario below :

There are 2 systems here . One for the development and one for the UAT . The development system does not have Business Objects installed. I installed SSM 7.0 SP 09 on the development system.

The UAT has Business Objects installed on it. The client wants SSO on the UAT . This is the scenario. My questions are as follows :

1.) Is it possible to install just the BOE as the central user management tool in the development server and migrate SSM 7.0 to SSM 7.5 ?

2.) Is it possible to have a patch to get the SSO for SSM 7.0 ? Since I have a working system of SSM 7.0 already installed on the development server , I feel that it is better to retain the existing version rather than upgrading to SSM 7.5.

3.) Is it advisable to uninstall SSM 7.0 completely and start a fresh installation of SSM 7.5 ? The actual dimensional models are not developed yet. So i am in the preliminary stages still. What do you suggest ?

Thanks,

Vijay

Vijay,

You definitely need to migrate to 7.5 if you want to use BOE authentication. Especially since this is the beginning of the project, I would really recommend getting on 7.5.

It's just an upgrade from 7.0 to 7.5, though the upgrade process means uninstalling 7.0 and installing 7.5. So if you upgrade to 7.5 that would be best and much more time & resources efficient.

Dear Bob/ Ricardo ,

Thanks a lot for your answers. I have another question . What components are required to integrate BO and SSM 7.5 ? the BO is on another server and the SSM is on another server. Is there any documentation available to work on this ? I heard there is a SSM master installation guide for 7.5. I am unable to find it. Please post the link , if possible.

In the SAP service market place , in the support packs for 7.5 , there is a file called as Administrator Application. For our license , we are unable to download this file. Is this file required for the installation of SSM 7.5 ? I raised a OSS note on this issue , but SAP are yet to get back to us. It has been a week , and we need to get this running by this Friday along with the integration of BO. So running short of time.

Thanks and Regards

Vijay

Vijay,

The integration is more the steps you need to take to link SSM with other applications. Since SSM uses Netweaver CE for user management, there are settings that need to be modified in NWCE to allow BOE (BusinessObjects Enterprise) to handle User Management.

You need to put together some web services, also in Netweaver CE, to be able to export data from SSM to use in Xcelsius dashboards. And in 7.5 there is a ODBO connector to link with Voyager. Certainly, you can probably use web services and the ODBO connection to link to other applications as well.

If you go to http://service.sap.com/instguidesCPM-STM and click on SAP BusinessObjects Strategy Management 7.5 in the left column, there will be a number of installation and configuration guides there, including the Strategy Management Master Guide. If you cannot get access to this area, you have to contact your SAP sales rep or SAP partner rep. Access to areas on Service Marketplace are controlled by license agreement and if there is something missing, you have to start with these people to facilitate the change.

For doing SP upgrades, you do need to follow the instructions in the Note. Usually you only need the Application Server and Interactive Publisher and Application Component on NWCE- though you should update Diagram Manager and the Excel Add-In (if you are using). Unless the Note specifically requires that you access an area to download a file, you don't need anything from other areas.

If the Note requires access to an area you don't can't see or open, contact your SAP sales rep or partner rep and open a support ticket. Occasionally, when a Note is first released, the file will be linked in the note via a SAPmat url. That's so it's available immediately on the note's release, since sometimes there is a delay with getting files onto Service Marketplace. But that is usually only a day or two between the release of the note and files available on Service Marketplace.

Regards,

Bob

Dear Bob ,

I am able to access the link provided by you. I have downloaded the required documents and software. I got a reply from SAP saying that the Administration Application is not required for the installation of SSM 7.5 . So , going ahead with the installation and deployment. Thanks a lot for your help. Keep up the good work.

Thanks ,

Vijay

Hi Bob / Ricardo,

Is there a "How to" guide or stesp in a master guide to follow to set-up:

1. Xcelisus integration with SSM with QAAWS

2. ODBO Connector for Voyager

Thanks.

Russell.

Russell,

The Configuration Help for Strategy Management has what you request.

Section 9.6 = Connecting to Xcelsius

Section 9.7 = Connecting to Voyager

Section 9.8 = WEBI / Universes

Section 9.9.1.1 = Creating a QaaWS from a Universe.

This guide can be found at Service Market Place at http://service.sap.com/instguidesCPM-STM > Strategy Management 7.5

Regards,

Bob
