Hello Experts,

I am new to MaxDB and Content Server. Please help me to my below queries which will be very helpful to me.

1. I have installed content server 6.40 MaxDB 7.6.

2. I have installed DBStudio for MaxDb Administration.

3. I have installed ADINT/TSM Client as I need to use IBM TSM server for backup/restore.

Please provide me the steps to do backup/restore of MaxDb database using TSM.

Thank you again.

Please make sure that you've also applied the latest MaxDB database patch.

The installation media for the SAP products usually contain some ancient version of the database software, so installing the current patch is imperative to avoid known problems.

As usual I've to ask: what's wrong with the documentation?

--> [Connecting Backup Tools from Other Providers|http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/43/e0f23ab6b4317de10000000a11402f/content.htm]

--> [Connecting to TSM|http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/30/a7f03e33483d67e10000000a114084/content.htm]

Try and see if this already answers your questions (it should) first.

Lars,

Thanks for the information.

I have followed exactly the same steps as mentioned in MaxDB documentation and IBM Documentation for ADINT/TSM client installation and configuration.

I have registered the node in TSM server.

Now When I try to run a Backup using DBMCLI or Database Studio, I am gettting the below error message.

Error:

-24925,ERR_PREPARE: preparation of backup operation failed

Can not create pipe '/usr/tivoli/tsm/adint64/temp'.

(System error 17; File exists)

Please let me know what might be the issue?

Hi Karthik,

please check whether the file/pipe is indeed already present at the location mentioned in the error message (it's coming from the tivoli client!).

Remove it if it is present and try again.

I suspect that the current pipe is just a left-over from one of your trials.

Lars,

You are very quick. Working on Sunday as well!

I have checked the location /usr/tivoli/tsm/adint64/temp but there is nothing in that location.

But how did you identify that this is the issue with TSM Client?

Where will be the log file stored for MaxDB and TSM Client?

Please let me know how to check whether the pipe is created or not?

After changing the backup script to :

OD1>>backup_start FullData recovery DATA

The previous message got disappeared and now the below error shows up.

Cleaning up.

Removing data transfer pipes.

Removing data transfer pipe /tmp/pipe_data1 ... Done.

Removed data transfer pipes successfully.

Copying output of ADSM to this file.

Hi All,

All the issues with ADINT/TSM backup has been resolved.

Log Backup and Data Backup is going successful.

Completed restore/Recovery step as well. All went fine.

Can any one tell me, If I want to delete the existing log files manually and test for Restore/Recovery of Backup, It is getting failed if I use DBMGUI and DBMCLI.

Should I select Recovery with Initialization in this case of Testing? Please explain? If any links/docs available, then it will be helpful.
