Interface WM QM

Hello,

i already browsed through existing posts and read the documentation about the possibilities of the sample quantity posting during goods receipt. My problem is that the popup during the WM process for handling the sample quantity is not processed in backround as defined in Customizing. Moreover the presettings in the popup change from material to material although the customizing settings are equal. I have no answer for this system behaviour. I attached the customizing as screenshot. The QM control is assigned to all relevant WM types.

Not an easy thing to answer because warehouse designs can differ so much.

But here's the guideline I've used about processing the samples.

Usually it has to do with how the material is stored and understanding where the sample comes from which WM rarely knows.

So.. to give an example. A full pallet of sterile gloves. 20 cases on a pallet.

6 boxes = 1 case

1 box = 100 ea

So 12,000 eaches to a pallet. BUOM is an each.

Two questions for this:

1) What is the lowest storage unit used by the warehouse for this?

2) What is the sample size and units being taken.

Lets say each case is stored as a WM storage unit. Your sample size is 2 each based on SQRT N+1 for number of containers. You've defined a case as the container by SOP. For a 20 case pallet, that's 4 cases + 1 need to be sampled. That means 5 cases have to have 2 gloves pulled from selected cases. For this, cases 1,5,11,16 and 20. To keep the number of eaches right in each SU, WM needs to know exactly which SU's the 10 eaches came from. So there is no way it can process this automatically. Now for gloves it might not be critical. But for other raw materials and components it can be.

Since the BUOM is eaches, WM must know how many eaches are in each storage unit. Because now, some cases have a box with only 98 gloves in them.

If on the other hand, I define the SU as the pallet of 20 cases, and I pull 10 eaches, WM can process this automatically since there is only one SU for the batch.

So there is no simple answer. It depends on the material, how its stored and how its sampled.

Craig

PS> all you sampling geeks out there, don't call out the sampling process I used here... it's just for illustrative purposes. I know its not officially correct.

Hello Craig S,

thanks a lot as always for your explanation which sounds logical. For us its more the second example with a pallet of 20 cases. For my issue it was an missing QM Control key which was not assigned to the specific WM Type. Moreover the system based control in customizing will never processes the sample popup during TA creation in backround. (i checked that technically). So the missing QM control key and the correct sign for processing in backround solved the problem. At least i could not reproduce it.
