Hello,

I changed the hostname of our SAP System (not productiv). When I'm trying to start SAP the following message appears in the syslog:

The database is on the same host and running. Before I tried to start SAP I changed all the three profiles (start, default, etc.).

I "reregistered" the SAP Services and I also read SAPNote 8307.

I only changed the hostname. The SID is the same.

Yes, I adapted the profiles. I changed the old hostname into the new hostname.

Yes. The system can't be started because the user SAPService<SID> doesn't know which database library to load because the environment variable dbms_type is not set --> your system doesn't start.

Changing the hostname is a non-supported task and should only be done by doing a homogeneous system copy. This is especially true on Windows where not only classical filesystem permissions are used but real ACLs on the shares, files and registry keys which get invalidated if you change the hostname.

Check the environment of the user by using regedit and

I made the entries and now I think the database library could be loaded.

As I said before, all the user environment is missing. The .XUSER62 entries, that are used to connect to the database are also not there since basically this is a copy of just the database files and the kernel.

You can get this to run but it's pretty tedious, all the stuff that sapinst does when you do a system copy must be done now manually, they are not documented.

You would now need to

- enable SAPService<SID> to logon interactively

- logon as user SAPService<SID>

- create the xuser entries (xuser -U DEFAULT -u .... -d .... -n .... set and also for the key "c" and "w")

- give the user the permissions to "logon as batch job", "lock pages in memory", "act as part of operating system"

- set the environment variables (SAPSYSTEMNAME etc.)

- do the same for user <SID>adm

- adapt permissions on the filesystem and the registry keys

now I tried it with installing a new SAP System with sapinst and after that installing a new database instance and backup recovery. Everything on the new host.

Now the SAP System is running!!!

Did you just change the hostname or also the SID? Did you adapt the profiles?
