Can I use MDM to maintain store tables for BW

Former Member

I have a situation where I need to store 20 tables - most of them not related to each other. Rather than put them into Ztables in SAP/ERP system I would like to store them in MDM so they can be maintained through Data Manager then pushed into BW for our project. These tables are currently being handled as spreadsheets so we need to find a solution.

But - if I want to do this should I plan to set up 20 Main Tables in a repository? Or should I set up some knd of Main Table and then set up the rest as Lookup tables?

How would you recommend we proceed?

Hi Beth Dazell,

MDM can store & process Master Data to BW as required. MDM 7.1 has a functionality of using multiple Main tables in single repository (i.e. storing reveleant master data under one head) & share reference data (Lookup).

If its MDM 5.5 then you need to maintain 20 different tables (repositories) for 20 Masters along with reference data (lookups).

So, decide accordingly how you want to design your MDM system.

Thanks so much for your help. Has anyone out there ever set up this many Main Tables in one Repository? We have at least 20 - just wondering if this will cause a performance issue?

We will be using a 7.1 system for this.

Hi Beth Dazell,

Never tried more than 7 Main tables in single repositories. Our repository had 7 related Main tables. so, gathered all under one repository, along with associiated Lookup data (reference).

You can design your Master data (different Main tables under one repository by associated Reference data with them). Can divide Repositories accordingly based on type of reference data used by these Masters.

Beth,

If you really dont have any scope to do any MDM functionality/Operation with those 20 tables of data; I strongly wont recommend MDM as Temp storage.

Instead use Ztables or Keep it as is and PUSH into BW.

Help us Understand what makes you to pull MDM into this scenario.

thanks,

Alexander.

MDM functionality I hope to use is Data Manager (to control updates to files), Security (by developing roles), workflow and BW connection...

We have the system - this would be a beginning project - a precursor to bigger and better things.

So - if I want to use MDM what is the best way?
