Hi,
When I integrate a BEx report with Xcelsius via "SAP Netweaver BI Connection", dashboards can only be published to portal.
Is there any chance to use them locally (e.g. pdf, swf)?
Thanks,
Erdem
Hi Erdem,
Did you in the meantime do some additional checks and found a solution? I believe the necessary releases are now available and it should be possible to connect Xcelsius 2008 to SAP BI with a SAP BI Connection...
But I still have the same issue you encountered!
I want to set up a SAP Netweaver BI Connection in Xcelsius 2008, but when I click on the "browse" button I have no response?
Releases:
SAP System: SAP EHP 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 with SAP_BW release 701 Level 5 (SAPKW70105)
SAP GUI: Release 7.10 Patch level 15
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 3, build 2600
BI AddOn 7.X (based on 7.10) Support Package 10, Patch 1. Revision 630
Xcelsius 2008 Engage with SP2 (Version 5.2.0.0 Build Number 12.2.0.608)
Any help would be appreciated!

Erdem,
Thanks for your quick feedback, but I'm not sure I understand...
What do you mean with preview in the portal?
I still have to create my dashboard. I open Xcelsius, with a blank canvas I try to create a connection. I select "Add" > "SAP BI Connection".
I give a name to my connection and I click "Browse". Here nothing happens.
I suppose I should get a logon screen and after that a query selection screen, but it doesn't show up?
Even if I created a manual dashboard, the SAP menu is not available...
Thanks!

Michel Hoefkens
Hi,
To create a connection, you should be able to click on browse and select a BEx query first. If the browse doesn't work, there should be a problem with your installations or maybe the temporary key doesn't allow it.
You can see the details and a demo sample from the webinar on the following link:
Wolfgang,
Do you still have the COM Exception error?
I still have, so if you found a solution, please inform me.
I did a test on another PC with installing Excel 2003 and Xcelsius 2008 SP3. There it finally started to work. When I tried the same on my labtop I still receive a COM Exception error
I also found out that when I delete the first BW connection and try to create another one, I receive other messages:
1) COM Exception
2) Class Not registered
3) The system cannot find the file specified.
Does this mean anything to someone?
Thanks!

Hi Michel,
i got the same "COM Exception".
Our BI application server belongs to a restricted network. We can only access through SAProuter service.
I changed the SAPString field of my BI entry:
Original SAP GUI entry:
Application server: 192.0.0.194
SAPString: /H/paquito.elchocolatero.local/H/
New SAP GUI entry:
Application server: /H/paquito.elchocolatero.local/H/ 192.0.0.194
SAPString:
With the original one, it tried to connect to the Application Server directly. It didn't use the SAP String field. With the new one, i forced to use it.
It worked for us. Maybe a XCelsius bug. We are using the XCelsius SP3.
Kind regards,
Raul.

Hi Raul,
I don't know what happened. I noticed that there was a problem with my SAPGUI installation (BEx icons were not available anymore in my programs). So I re-installed the SAPGUI with the required patch updates.
After that I retested your solution and it worked!
I did also some additional tests on the PC's of my colleagues and they were all successful.
Thank you a lot for you feedback!

We are facing the same issue. Can you explain where I go to make this change. I do not see SAP Router service on our BI box.
Erdem,
You will be able to export it as well, are you facing any problem while exporting it to pdf or swf?
