Requirement transfer to MRP IN CASE OF variant configuration

Former Member

Dear pp guys

In variant configuration scenario there are 10 characteristics out of which 3 chars. Values are known and other 7 char.values which have been entered may change in quotation once the purchase order comes.. The requirement is 3 char. for which values are known for that PR need to be created in MRP run and for rest of chars. i.e. for 7 chars. It has to be created once user status requirement transfer has been set in quotation .

Kindly suggest can we use any exit or standard way in MRP to explode in this manner.

hi,

MRP will explode Bill of materials as per characteristics set in the sales order. If you run MRP after having just 3 characteristics in the sales order , MRP will automatically plan only materials linked with those characteristics and as long as the planned order for the top level item is not firmed, based on MRP settings you can make MRP to re-explode BOM after additional 7 characterisitcs are transferred to sales order.

This is standard. Just run MRP after unfirming the top level planned order and settings to re-explode BOM.

hI,

wHAT YOU SAID IS CORRECT. But the requirment is slightly different. In my sales document i.e. in quotation along with 3 char. other 7 chars. values are also there but customer may ask to change it later. so instead transferring all char. at one time we need to restrict to transfer first 3 char. and remaining 7 based on user status set in the quotation. What i feel the requirement is not standard but it seems that it is genuine one as the Purchase order has not come but sales person is confident that the PO will definately come so start planning char. of long lead time.suggest

hi,

Sorry for delay. If you just want to plan components with long lead time before order is booked, you can achieve it via characteristics based planning. However if you want to start build of your final configurable assembly without sales order is fully configured, you can do it only by creating custom status for sales order.

Process will still work the way I explained before, ( order BOM getting components only based on the configuration at the time of MRP).

You should use Order change management (OCM) via tcode COCM, COCM2 to get the production order components list updated after the order is reconfigured again.

This is pain. Most of the time we manage with dummy sales order and re transfer it to correct sales order. This is also a painful process. Try option 1 as most of your headaches will be pushed to SD!!.

Dear RAV,

I think you are close to answer my problem. ok according to your suggestion i will enter configurable code in sales document and configure with 3 char. This will be transferred to MRP for component planning with one user status. But how will i stop configurable code to be converted to production order ? note i have not yet configured the configurable code in sales order.
