SQL Server Upgrade

Former Member

Hi all,

We are running B1 2005B PL6 on MSSQL Enterprise 2005 with SP1. I know that the SQL server has other product levels SP2 and SP3. Is it necessary to upgrade it to highest product level? If yes, is there any areas required to pay attention? And I am going to upgrade B1 to 2005B PL48 or PL49. Any impact without upgrade the SQL server?

Please advise.

Regards,

Eric

Hi Eric,

The answer to your question can be found [_here_|https://websmp108.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001241092005E]: service.sap.com/smb/sbocustomer -> Solution Overview. Then expand "SAP Business One 2005" and click on 'Supported Platforms'. Scrolling to the bottom of that page you will find the following statement:

"Effective immediately, SAP will test only major versions of Microsoft's operating systems, databases and Office software products. Service Packs delivered by Microsoft in the course of a product's lifecycle will no longer be tested separately, but will automatically be officially supported for SAP Business One.

If a customer or partner encounters an issue with any of the Microsoft product Service Packs, SAP will solve this issue on a case-by-case basis as a bug (historically low rate of occurrence)."

So there is no need to update the SQL Server to the highest SP, however I'd recommend to do it.

Kind regards

Mario

Hi,

I have been asked to upgrade the SQL server to 2008 but we are running version 2005B. Is it possible? I check that SQL server 2008 doesn't support 2005 release. Is that true?

Eric

Hi Eric,

That is true. You need to update to the latest 2007 version in order to use SQL Server 2008.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi,

Yes it is not support 2005 B releases.

We are running in MSSQL Enterprise 2005 with SP1 as of now we didnu2019t face any problem with the sql server 2005. If you wish to upgrade your sql server, One thing you should keep in your mind before going to upgrade your sql server for sql server 2008 release.

In B cluster countries (2005 B and 2007 B) sql server 2008 will work only from the 2007 B Patch Levels 10 onwards. And the configurations should be like Microsoft® SQL Server 2008 32 Bit / 64 Bit (x64), Express, Workgroup, Standard & Enterprise Edition.

Given below is the support platform link.

For sap b1 2005B, MSSQL Enterprise 2005 sp1 is sufficent. No need to upgrade Service Pack unless you are using any third party addons, contact the addon vendor whether it is necessary to upgrade serice pack for MS SQL

If yes, is there any areas required to pay attention? And I am going to upgrade B1 to 2005B PL48 or PL49. Any impact without upgrade the SQL server?

I think you know for sap b1 2005B support will be stopped by 31st december 2009.So it is highly recomended to upgrade to sap b1 2007B.

And there wont be any impact if MS SQL is not upgraded.

(Note:You should upgrade to 2007B PL10 before upgrading to the latest patch in 2007B)

Hope this is helpful!
