How to manage changes with ECM

Dear Guru's ,

I know basically how ECM works, but my question is following:

Suppose you've entered a running change with the purpose of replacing component A into B somewhere next year.

This is entered in the system, the ECM has all BOM's that have this component in the objectlist.

Now the big problem: a new material is created with a new BOM, using the same component A. How can it be assured that the ECM is also valid for this new BOM? Does SAP provide a function for this?

My client is expecting that when the new BOM is created with reference, the change is also included in the copy, but this doesn't seem to work this way.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Dear Albert,

1.You can modify or add or delete any component from the existing BOM using a change number with today's validity date or else

some future date.

2.This date control is based on the the vlaid from date of the change number which you create in CC01.

3.your second part of the query is not clear, please explain clearly.

Albert-Jan,

I think you should look to introduce the concept of Discontinued parts that is being replaced with followup material.

If it is a 1 to 1 replacement it can be easily done by using MRP4 view fields Dis continue ind =1, effective out date= date in future & folloup material.

So in your case in material master of A, use dis con ind =1, effective date in future, folloup material =B.

system will then start planning for material B automatically when the effective future date is reached ( taking into account that stock of A is 0)

If you need more complex replacements then it can be done in BOM. You can refer SAP help on this topic as well by following bewlo URL

Hope this helps. If you need more clarifications please come back.

thanks,
