Can Mobile Sales Client 4.0 Sync with CRM 7.0 Backend?

hello all,

we are planning an upgrade of our CRM system from 4.0 to 7.0. but the big question is after we upgrade the server, can our mobile users running mobile sales 4.0 still sync?

we will also be upgrading the mobile environment to the latest client (mobile sales 5.0), but we are not sure if as soon as we upgrade to CRM 7 that the mobile users will no longer be able to sync unless we first upgrade them to 5.0.

our main issue is downtime for the mobile users. hopefully we can upgrade the server to 7.0 and mobile client 4.0 users can still sync until we then follow-up with an upgrade of their client environment.

if you know the answer for this or have any experience doing this, please let me know.

thanks!

Hello Mike,

SAP does not support the Mobile Client and CRM server to be on different Support packages. So to connect to a CRM System on 5.0 the corresponding Mobile systems should also be on same 5.0. It's recommed that all related systems are also in the recommeded SP levels.

Thanks, Gervase.

Ok, so this implies that before I upgrade the CRM server, I must make sure that all clients peform a sync. Then, we can go ahead and upgrade their client software, after which they can resume data processing.

Is this correct?

Thanks agian.

Hi Mike,

Yes ensure Conntrans has been run on all clients. Then you can continue with upgrading the CRM Server and then the clients.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation.

Is there any document that discusses best practices regarding mitigating clients who did not or were unable to do a conntrans prior to the upgrade?

For example, let's say a mobile user was on vacation or had an emergency, was unable to do a conntrans before the upgrade, and he still has some data in his 4.0 environment.

Are there any documents or best practices that discuss how to get this user's 4.0 data into the new 7.0 system?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

There is no document for best practices concerning this particular issue.

You can have the CRM\Middleware on a higher patch level than the MSA clients, but you shouldn't have the MSA client on a higher patch level than the Middleware Server. Try to run Conntrans before doing the upgrade.

So you will need to upgrade the server first and they need to clear the queue otherwise the old client BDocs may be rejected by the upgraded CRM if BDoc structure or table definitions change. But these BDoc structure changes

could be minimised by regenerating the structures in the client console of the MSA clients.

Don't allow Conntrans to be run during the upgrade.
