changing material groups in material master

hi

We have requirement for changing material groups in material master for the materials

1) having stock

2) having purchasing documents which are in release.

3) past documents in the database.

Please let me know prerequisites/ effects of the same.

Also let me know effects on

1) past purchasing documents containing old material group

2) stock in the warehouse

3) purchasing documents which are in release (effets on old release strategy already assigned)

4) purchasing documents which are released already completed

    Hello Sarang,

    SAP does not stop you from changing material group, at best it shows a warning that you already have open purchasing document.

    As a rule of thumb I believe, once you have generated documents from the material, then the changes done to the material are not updated in the document in progress or closed document.

    However, of course, if you have material group as release characteristic, then the release will still work based on old group. For the new POs, the new group will be taken into account.
