creating BW report on top of hana views

Hi,

Just want to confirm if there really is an additional license to create BW reports on top of HANA views? Is that correct?

If it is, what if your company doesn't want to avail the said license? How do you do BW reports on top of HANA views? I heard that there is a so-called "INDIRECT APPROACH" wherein you store first the result of your HANA views to another storage (I'm assuming that the data will be passed in an ADSO or a similar object) before creating the BW report?

Any idea about this? Is this really the "indirect approach" method? Or what is the BEST approach in this kind of scenario?

Thank you.

Loed

    Hi Loed,

Client gets BW component with the new HANA implementation. So your BW system is linked with HANA directly. So you can directly consume the HANA view in your BW query which results in real-time output.:-)

    • Hi Yogesh,

      Thanks for your response.

So no additional license is needed for doing a query on top of HANA views? Because someone in my company mentioned that we needed an additional license before we can do it. Or maybe I misunderstood him. So I posted here just to confirm.

      Thanks.

    Hi,

Assuming you have runtime license (most basic one) i.e. your BW runs on HANA as DB, you need no additional license.

Indirect approach as described by you is no different that standard BW approach. What you choose to use depends on the requirements (e.g. are you getting good performance directly from hana view) and not on the license.

I'm not exactly clear what do you mean by BW report. If this is bex query, then you still need at least composite provider on top of hana view to be able to build one.
