Is TLS included with sqlanywhere 12 or is it a separately licensed product and are there any other methods to encrypt connections to the server

I don't think Jeffrey's answer is correct. According to that link, RSA encryption does not require an addition license, unless FIPS is required.

Furthermore, starting with v12.0.1.3396 SQL Anywhere has changed to OpenSSL, see the notes in the according readme file (cf. CR #749256)

or in that FAQ from the SQL Anywhere Forum.

Correct, only FIPS is requires a separate license. Unfortunately, the v12 documentation incorrectly states in a Note block that TLS is a separately licensed component. The documentation is correct in the core of that topic page. This doc issue was addressed in v16.

TLS requires separate license in SQL Anywhere 12. Please see TLS support as reference.
