How to change Asset Dep percentage to useful life

Hi

Gurus

One of my client wants to change the current dep calculation from percentage basis to useful life.

Ex:- Machinery dep percentage is 10.5% so that on total value the system will count the said percentage on the given value but as his requirement he wants to change that percentage into useful life means the total value should become zero on the given specifeid useful life example that is 7years.

If this changes are made in which areas this effect will be shown.

Can anyone provide the information. points will be added

Probably right now your client is using depreciation key with base method which uses "stated rate of percentage for calculating depreciation". You need to configure dep.key which uses "useful life of asset" as base for calculating depreciation. Once you have configured the dep. key, assign it to the asset class/asset master for which you need to make change. You will then be able to get Net value of asset as zero at the end of useful life. Don't forget to check out GL accounts assigned in account determination and whether the change in depreciation should be retrospective/prospective. Remember, after this change, the system will consider value as of date for depreciating over remaining useful life i.e. if 1 out of 7 years has already lapsed, it will calculate for 6 years and depreciate on straight line basis.

Hi Teja, which standard depreciation key we must use.orelse,if new depn key is required then what are the fileds to be changed and settings to be done?

For changing the Asset useful life , simply write an LSMW or a BDC of Transaction Code AS02 -->Change Asset Master Data and provide the details in Text file and upload.

This is only way to change useful life for your requirement.
