How to trigger a specific campaign from a landing page

Hi experts,

We have the requirement to send customers via social media to a landing page, where they can register for a download, then a trigger campaign will send the customer an email with the appropriate download link.

We were planning to capture this requirement by an interaction (e.g. WEBSITE_REGISTRATION) on submitting the landing page, but we need to identify the download requested or the landing page used, which we were going to use interests for. We would then use a live target group to segment/filter by those that recently registered the interest for the download.

The only way that we can see to add an interest to the landing page form is via the Download element, but this will automatically show a download link on the landing page which isn't what we want, we want to send the download link in an email.

We are using Marketing Cloud. Please ask any questions in case the above is not clear.

Kind regards, Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

I am pleased to tell you that with release 2002 we now support items of interests also on the interaction element. So now you can create one or more interactions in one form and do a follow-up using live target groups and trigger-based campaigns.

See also: What's New or the updated documentation.

I hope this helps!

Best Regards,

Arne (Product Manager)

I can see that it's in the What's New, although I havent yet checked it out for myself. However happy to mark the question as resolved.

Many thanks,

Andrew.

As an update on this, we are going with Subsciptions functionality to manage this. It isn't the most elegant solution but it seems to meet all of the customer requirements. We also have an idea raised in the Customer Influence portal to enable us to associate Interests with other landing page elements in addition to just the Download option.

Hi Andrew

I think you can already build a scenario based on your requirements in SAP Marketing Cloud:

STEP 1
Add an hidden and pre-selected Interaction field to you landing page.
As Interaction Type, use Website-Download.

STEP 2
Provide download-elements combined with items of interests.
Do NOT fill in any download URL!

STEP 3
Create and release a live target group for all contacts having done interaction Website Download and selected Download B (based on Item of Interest) within the last day.

STEP 4
Create a trigger-based email campaign for Download B, based on the Website Download interaction. As filter you can now use the live target group from step 3.

Hi Christian,

This was our original solution but the Download options automatically display a hyperlink on form submission and we dont seem able to overrule this.

Kind regards,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew

Sorry, i just updated my post.
Do not input any download URL, so no hyperlink will appear.

Thanks Christian, so if no download URL is entered then the link doesn't show? I think I tried removing the HTTP and leaving the field blank but it errored, so we need to leave it with the default http://.. value?

We have now proposed an alternative solution to the customer which looks to be a good fit for them, using Subscriptions, but I'd still like SAP to look to tie in Interests with other elements like Interactions.

Many thanks for your help,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew
I am sorry - my solution is not working

I just performed a test and as there is no real download because no download URL will not be opened, you can not do a segmentation based on the interest.

It seems using subscriptions might be a good workaround for your case.
You have my vote for your improvement request.

Many thanks for the update Christian, I thought I had tried this originally, but I hadn't retested it after your suggestion, so thanks for testing it for me.

Thanks for the vote, appreciate it!

Hi Andrew,

Basically what you need is the possibility to add items of interests to interactions (similar to the download option) on Landing Pages in SAP Marketing Cloud? Have you considered submitting this as a new feature request here:

Customer Influence Portal

This would, however, still mean that you need to set up items of interests in the system.

Thanks for the response Theo. You are correct, this is what we really require - to specify interests against interactions from a landing page like we can from the Download option.

I can raise this as an idea in the customer influence portal, but I wanted to see if there was anything in the system that I was missing that could do this for us first. It sounds as though there is not anything already available.

You will get my vote 🙂

Apart from that you always have the option to post interactions via OData (e.g. from the final download page -> not a MKC Landing Page) and add the item of interest.

You can use the following OData service: API_MKT_INTERACTION_SRV

Hi Theo - I forgot to post the link to the idea, here it is - https://influence.sap.com/sap/ino/#/idea/219122/?section=sectionDetails - all votes welcome. 🙂

Process flow is:

1. Post on social media that a new download is available, with a link for customers to request the download

2. The link in the social media post navigates customers to a landing page form on the website where they fill out name and email address for the download

3. A trigger campaign sends the customer an email with the download link included

We could create an interaction type for each download but this isn't very end-user friendly as this will require additional configuration each time a new download is offered.

At any given time there will be multiple landing pages available, each linked to a specific download, so we need to be able to capture the interaction to trigger the campaign, but also be able to filter on the landing page or interest so that the right download email is sent.

Many thanks,

Andrew.
