Exporting as MS Word file has squashed text.

I am trying to export a crystal report to be opened as a word document. When I select the format as "Microsoft Word (97-2003)" the report exports and opens up in word with some squashed text as you see below.

I have tried several things to overcome this issue,

1. Changed the crystal reports run-time to the latest version

2. Exported the report as Editable RTF. It loses all my format I have in the report. Including page numbers, header footer designs, logo positions etc.

3. Added following registry keys. I couldn't find any registry keys that related to word export. They are all related to RTF & Editable RTF file formats.

(i) UseOriginalHyphen - RTF

(ii) ReduceFontSizeBy - RTF

(iii) EliminateBlankLinesToFitPage - editablertf

Even though they are not related to anything that has to do with squashed text issue, i tried them anyway to see whether it would make a difference. All of those changes didn't help. The issue still persists.

However, When I used the crystal runtime version 13.0.7.. the export works fine. It doesn't have any squash text. I need to know what has been changed from the version 13.0.7 onward that occurs this issue? How can I overcome this? As you know the version that it relies on is pretty old and I need to upgrade to a later version.

Also, I have found that opening the word document in word 2016 doesn't show any changes in text. But word versions like 2010 still has the issue. It seems that word 2016 handles the text issue where word 2010 cannot. In addition, opening the file in word 2010 and "Saving As" a .docx file also seems to resolve this issue. The components added when changing the extension from doc to docx has something to do with fixing the text changes.

Saying that, the original issue still stands. I need to export the file as .doc and open it in word 2010. Which has the text squash issue. Any input will be highly appreciated.

My crystal reports version :

Crystal runtime engine version: 13.0.20

    • Hi Don,

Thanks for your reply. Now that's the thing. I can't install the latest version of Crystal runtime engine as the package that we use to export the word files from our ASP web app is 13.0.2. As soon as I install the latest runtime engine all our exporting mechanisms break and we are unable to produce any word documents from our application. Is there any workaround that you know of?
