how to create a derivation rule

hi all,

Can anyone help me out in how to create a derivation rule, characteristic derivation and also what are the other things that are required . I think we will be creating the derivation rule in the t-code kedr. but where we will be executing and how the execution will be. I am very much confused and stuck in this. where to see the output and how the derivation rule gets works. Please suggest me in this..

Use the t-Code KEDR.Then choose the requirements like Source and target fields.

For your understanding the source fields are some thing like what the input will be given in a particular transaction like company code,controlling area and so on.

Target are the fields which will be derived based on the source fields.

Eg:Source can have profit center and target can be product which will be derived based on profit center.

Hi,

Derivation rule doesnt meant it is a mandatory requirement for COPA.

You define Derivation rule ONLYif u have created some characteristics in the operating concern but the values are not going to flow from the base document through which the values get posted to copa.

so by writing a derivation rule u r setting up the system to derive the values into those characteristics which doesnt other wise get loaded with the values.

You dont need to execute with separte transaction to check the values. On posting any transaction system read all the available derivation rules before document get posted into copa.

You can use KEAT and KE4ST Tcodes for simulating the value flows into COPA.
