I need to extract the 2 years of montly data from BPC application 5.1 and put it in BPC7 application.
What is the best way to extract? Do we take all the data month by month in this case or single extract will cover all the month?
Which is ideal extraction program or executing the report and taking the summary and copy paste?
In this scenario do you suggest to use the BW staging cube to store the data?
Hi Doodwala,
You can export data from BPc5.1 using data manager package to export data in ASCII format (flat file) and then import that flat file into BPC7Nw using data manager package to import using flat file. Please make sure that you do the necessary conversions and transformations to suit to the BPC application and master data in BPC7NW. This way there is no need to store it in any staging cube if you don't want to.

Hi Praveen,
Thanks for the inputs.. I am also hearing the option called SQL dump to download the data. Now trying to know what it is.
In the option you have given...suppose if we need to bring 2 full years data of all months....do we have to make month by month extraction thru package or simple extraction for individual YTD will suffice?
Regards,
I would say as far as possible try to use Data Manager functionality for this unless there are some other business reasons (automation, performance etc)
Regarding your question of whether to get the data month by month or all in one go, it depends upon the volume of the data and the extent of conversion/transformation required. If the data volume is not much and if all data can adhere to the same conversion/transformation, you can load the 2 yr data in the same run.

Thanks. I can load 2 years of data at the same time, since the data volume is less.
But the issue is since I need all the 2 years data for monthly ,quarterly comparision do I need to extract the data from BPC5.1 for period by period or single extract of YTD data will do?
For example for 2008 do I extract the data from BPC5.by month by month , ( 12 extracts for the year ) or single YTD extract will suffice for all the monthly , quarterly comparison for the year?
