Number of disp+work.exe increase/decrease unexpectedly

Dear Sirs,

Please advise to our problem related to number of disk+work.exe

On our ECC system, the number disp+work.exe is usually 27.

Sometimes it becomes 26 or 28.

(DIA:16 BGD:4 UPD:4 UP2:1 SPO:1)

In case of 26, I think it is caused by restarting disp+work.exe.

But I have no idea with the case of 28.

- Our System

OS: Windows 2003 R2 x64

DB: SQL Server 2005

SAP: ECC6.0 (Kernel 700 64bit unicode)

Check your instance profile for number of wp's and check if there is operation modes.

Hi, Manoj

Thanks for your reply.

Instance profile has DIA:16 BGD:4 UPD:4 UP2:1 SPO:1

And operation mode has same number of workprocesses as instance profile.

Hi,

Check the profile file at the Operating System level and compare the number of process with RZ10 display.

If someone has changed the number of processes in the profile with a text editor, it will not be seen from RZ10 and you may don't understand the number of work processes seen from SM50...

Hi, Olivier

thanks for your reply.

as far as i checked, there is no inconsistency among instance profile file, rz10 values and sm50.

it seems temporarily case. it happened for seconds or minutes.

In case of decreasing the number of disp+work.exe from 27 to 26,

Maybe it is casued by restarting workprocess(disp+work.exe)

In case of increasing the number of disp+work.exe from 27 to 28.

i cannot find out the reason.

Why it increases??

Well, you'll have to make a check for gremlins !

In 11 years of SAP system administration I've never seen the number of disp+work processes increasing auto magically.

The number of processes is defined in the profile.

I would rather suspect a display problem here, not a real change in number.

You might want to try a different kernel patch level, and see if the problem still exists.
