Cannot initialize Report Engine server error

Dear All,

We have kind of portal application that maintains an enterprise session constantly open, periodically refreshes numerous Webi reports and embeds them to the portal. This application was perfectly working on R2. Now, we are migrating it to R3 (We have replaced old jars with new). Currently we are experiencing a very strange problem. The application is working, but after some time starts to generate com.businessobjects.rebean.wi.CommunicationException: Cannot initialize Report Engine server. (Error: RWI 00226) exception on openDocument call, After that, the attempt to refresh any webi report even via InfoView is leading to the same error. In the CMC, all WIR servers have status u201Crunningu201D, but restart of all WIR servers (simple restart, no Force Termination is needed) is resolving the problem for some time.

Is any idea how to solve the issue?

Regards,

D.

After some time - is it 8 or 12 hours, or some different duration?

Also - are you closing the document and ReportEngine after use, or keeping them open as well, and running out of open connections?

Sincerely,

Depends on the amount of WIRs and load on the system. If we have 16 WIR and not so much users, system is failing in 2-4 hours. In case of 4 WIRs and significant load it dies in 20 minutes.

We are closing all documents, but what I have found is that we are trying to cache and reuse report engines. In other words, report engines are closing only if enterprise session is dying. It was working fine in R2. Can it be a problem in R3 (taking into account that WIRs are restarting periodically)?

Problem is resolved by proper sessions management and closing of report engines. Looks like R3 is more sensitive to inaccuracy in this area than R2.
