Hi
All Experts ,
I am facing one problem while performing depreciation posting run through AFABN.
The error like this in log :-
Create document number range 03 using internal number assignment
Message no. AA776
Diagnosis
Processing terminated because the document number range 03 for year 2008 was set up with external number assignment.
System Response
For periodic posting of depreciation, you have to create a document number range with internal number assignment, since the document numbers are assigned from Financial Accounting.
Procedure
Change the number assignment for the number range 03 from external to internal in Customizing for Asset Accounting. See SAP Note 890976 for more information.
Please put some insights.
Regards,
Pankaj.
Hi Pankaj,
In transaction code FBN1, make the number range assigned to the ID 03 as internal, i.e, remove the tick from the option Ext.
Please revert for clarification.

Hi Pankaj,
By default, the document type AF is linked to the transaction code AFAB for depreciation run. You can see that in transaction code AO71.
In OBA7, if you double click on AF document type, you will find that the number range assigned is 03.
Now internal number ranges are used when the numbers are to be sequentially assigend by the system without user interaction. All accounting document number ranges must be internal number ranges.
Extrernal number ranges are used when the user wants to assign a number instead of the system. Say for example the vendor code - the user wants the name to be used as the code rather than a number given by the system. In such cases, the external number range option will be used with the higher limit as ZZZZZZZZZZ. This will facilitate the users to give alpha numeric code to the vendors.
Please revert for clarifications.
Thanks and Regards,
Anit
