BI Data Deletion

Former Member

Hi

We had a BI System with 750GB. We deleted data pertaining to one company code, from the system. After that size of the Database has reduced to 300 GB.

Now I want to strip that 400GB extra from the BI system and redeem it back to my storage area network(SAN).

I searched in this forum, many suggested reorganization is the option. But I don't know how to proceed further.

DB: Oracle 9.2.0.6

OS: HP UX 11.23

Regards

Kasi

Info required is on Note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE

I recommend you to upgrade Oracle to 10g

Thanks for your response.

Since its being a production system I don't want to take chances...

What is the advantages for the 10g upgrade recommendation apart from the online field conversion(Long to Lob).

What is wrong with exp/imp method?

Nothing wrong with it... you can proceed, just be aware the reorganization is quite a time consuming task so make arrangements for a good downtime.

In any case make sure that you plan for a DB upgrade in the near future.
