Hi all:
I am a freshman in SAP and since our company is going to use SAP BI, I want to install EDIS ECC6.0 and BW on my computer.
Here I have 2 quesions:
1. Can I install ECC with an external USB portable hard disk(1TB)?
If so, here I have 2 computers, Can anybody kindly suggest which one is better?(A new computer is not a good choice because I don't want to be killed by my mum...)
Option 1: Laptop A
CPU: Intel Pentium M(Dothan) 740
Memory: 2G
Hard Disk: 120G + 1TB portable hard disk
Option 2: Desktop B
CPU: Intel P4 2.8G
Memory: 512MB(Memory is not a problem, I can buy a new one)
Hard Disk: 60G + 1TB portable hard disk
2. Can I install IDES on Windows XP SP2?
Best Regrds
Tim
1. Not sure for external HD but the actuall hardisk sizes shown in both of your computer is enough too
laptop -Intel M is pentium III+ version, I guess this also sufficient
deskotp- Intel P4, very much sufficient
2. yes, can be installed on winXP SP2

Since you allege to be a company why do you intend to install SAP server software on a laptop or PC?

And moreover, as you as a company should have license for Windows Server, why do you intend to install on Windows XP, which is a frontend operating system?

Thanks for your reply, and I am going to install IDES the first time in my life. Wish it successfully...

Darshan:
Thanks for your reply.
I am going to install on my desktop for the below reasons:
1. Most of my spare time, I use my laptop and my desktop is mainly for material storing purpose and I seldom use it.
2. Per Anjali's reply:
"laptop -Intel M is pentium III+ version, I guess this also sufficient
deskotp- Intel P4, very much sufficient"
very much sufficient > also sufficient, right?
What do you think Darshan? I would like to hear others' opinion.
And here I have one more question: Compared with XP and 2003, which OS is more suitable for me based on my hardware?
Desktop B
CPU: Intel P4 2.8G
Memory: 512MB + 1G
Hard Disk: 60G + 1TB portable hard disk
Thanks and best regards
Tim

Yes you can but i have seen many of times when USB harddisk stop reading due to any problem your system will stop working and there are high chances of Sap and Database related problems, but the space requirement is around 280 GB for ECC IDES SR3 so obviously on internal harddisk you cannot install, and the OS should be 64bit otherwise your system will give you dump so many time due to memory problem. (my experience)
