ADS performance - speed up of pdf generation (reduce the pdf file size)

Hi, regarding the Adobe Document Servicies pdf generation and the pdf file size.

- Are there any possibilities in the ADS settings to reduce the pdf file size (quality)?

As is now the general pdf size (the pdf holds transparent material pictures in the png format) is 10 MB and the requirement is to reduce the pdf file size to between 500 KB - 2 MB.

Patrick,

You can decrease the size(quality) of images and that should probably make the PDF smaller.

Hi, that is one option but that is considered. I have read through the document http://support.adobe.com/devsup/devsup.nsf/docs/52707.htm and wonder - Is possible to do parameter settings in the ADS to reduce the pdf file size?

The main problem is that there are many material pictures in the pdf (30-50 pictures) and the pdf needs to be efficient since it is used in mass change functions. To generate 1000 pdf's with a file size of 10-20 MB is not performance wise - the requirement is to reduce the file size to speed up the process.

PDFs, by their nature, are not size-effecient.

your best best is to reduce the quality of your pictures as mentioned above. there are a number of image editors available to do this.

also, try to minimize any other graphics, F4 dropdown lists, etc..

Hi, thanks for the info.

- Are there any possibilities to use ADS parameter settings or postscipt manipulation to reduce the file size of pdf generation of files?

Patrick,

Have a look at the Form caching & Bundling options mentioned in [Performance Aspects of Adobe|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/32/ca700810b44b3bb24dd4818a18e6e6/frameset.htm].

HI Patrick

First of all you should try to use .png images which are very small as compared to jpg. Secondly if you can remove the images from the form and display them dynamically , Using URL using formcalc. You can place the images on ADS server.
