Close Portal Window in URL iView

Hello,

We have a requirement at our client to do the following in the Portal:-

Create a url iview which points to an external address. This url iview is linked to a page which is linked to a portal role. When the user selects the role and ultimately the URL iview which launches the external address in a new window the requirement is to close the portal window altogether.

I do not see any way to achieve this by using the standard url ivew wizard therefore I have tried creating a customer html page (stored in KM) which launches the external address using javascript. Attempted to use the window.close() option hoping that the portal parent window will close.

However no luck.

We are using I.E.6.0

Any ideas or help would be great appreciated.
