Material Forecasting / Consumption Spike

Hi,

We use Forecast Planning with Average Consumption looking back over 6 periods.

This works well with a constant consumption.

Period 1 - 20

Period 2 - 17

Period 3 - 23

Period 4 - 20

Period 5 - 21

Period 6 - 20

Average consumption: 120 / 6 = 20

If we have a spike in material consumption the average consumption can go up significantly.

Period 1 - 20

Period 2 - 17

Period 3 - 23

Period 4 - 20

Period 5 - 21

Period 6 - 200

Average consumption: 300 / 6 = 50

We can update the planning table to change period 6 back to '20' but that is only if we know we need to do this.

Is there a way of highlighting this variance or spike so we can catch it before running SOP / MRP?

Thanks,

Tim
