Running database backup to netbackup using remote server

We have a ASE and associated backup server. There are 50+ databases on this server. Databases are not step for point-in-time recovery (trunc log on chkpt=on). Full database backups are performed in 2 set half in morning and rest in the evening. Backups were finishing earlier however now it takes over 24 hours. These databases also have cumulative backup every alternate hour.

There is a case open with tech support to look into reducing time of backup.

There is also a case open with Veritas.

As per tech support setting up another backup server and dividing load would help running backup faster.

Remote backup to disk from ASE1 to BS (bacjupserver) 2 runs fine but remote backup to netbackup from ASE1 to BS2 (backupserver) returns error.

Is anyone running Sybase backupto NetBackup via remote backup server.

When you dump to an archive device name that starts with a name followed by two colons , this indicates that you are using a Backupserver API module for the dump rather than simple file or raw partition device. (i.e. Netbackup is implemented as a Backupserver API module named "sybackup".) The specified name is the name of a loadable library that handles the stream of database data that constitutes the backup; the values following the colons are parameter values passed to that library.

The Backupserver API is not compatible with remote backups, it can only be used with the local Backup Server. This is why the ASE manuals indicate that the old dump to "compress::" compression method only worked locally. http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/topic/com.sybase.infocenter.dc31644.1600/doc/html/san1371158741480.html and similarly for the Tivoli method http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/topic/com.sybase.infocenter.dc78565.1570100/doc/html/git1316214780953.html

    Thanks for your reply Bret,

If I understood it correctly there is no way to send backup to netbackup via remote backup.

Is there any suggestion to on split the workload of the primary backup server.

In out current setup, we are also getting following error on backupserver log however when the backservr is restarted explicity with -P (higher value) backup server does not start.

Is there a system setting or parameter that needs to be adjusted that is preventing startup of backup server .
