Shipment is nothing but transportation and this will happen after goods issued from Plant . Plant to Customer place... by some vehicle...

The shipments are created against deliveries (a combination of deliveries can create a shipment) and are used for transportation functions.

"Delivery" is one of the process step in Sales process (Order-to-cash) and "Shipment" is one of the sub-functions in the Delivery or Shipping process step.

This Shipment function is an optional function.

From one Shipping point, When you send multiple deliveries in one truck (means of transport) and the truck is to deliver goods to several Ship-to-parties along a particular route, then this function is called Shipment function.

The document created for this is called Shipment document and cost involved is called Shipment cost which is also optional.

Normally, Shipment is created before PGI.

During Shipment you can pack the deliveries in bigger packing material that means packing function is possible in Shipment.

I hope, it is clear.

Hi

Shipping is an important part of the logistics chain in which guaranteed customer service and

distribution planning support play major roles.

In shipping processing, all delivery procedure decisions can be made at the start of the process

by

1. Taking into account general business agreements with your customer

2. Recording special material requests

3. Defining shipping conditions in the sales order

The result is an efficient and largely automatic shipping process in which manual changes are

only necessary under certain circumstances.

Before you create a shipment using VT01N you need to create a Delivery doc (VL01N), Create Transfer order (LT03) and confirm the same (using LT12).

The shipping module supports the following functions, which include but are not limited to:

1 Deadline monitoring for reference documents due for shipment (sales orders and purchase

orders, for instance)

2 Creating and processing outbound deliveries

3 Planning and monitoring of worklists for shipping activities

4 Monitoring material availability and processing outstanding orders

5 Monitoring the warehouse's capacity situation

6 Picking (with optional link to the Warehouse Management system)

7 Packing deliveries

8 Information support for transportation planning

9 Support of foreign trade requirements

10 Printing and transmitting shipping documents

11 Processing goods issue

Hope this helps.
