Crystal XI R2 Designer Crash

XP Machine

Crystal Repoorts XI R2

After a period of inactivity, the Crystal Designer consistently crashes after several minutes. This occurs even if I just start the designer and avoid opening a report.

The error message is:

Crystal Reports - reportname: crw32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014". The memory could not be "read".

I used ProcessMonitor for the crw32.exe process but I can't see any obvious step that's causing the failure. One possibility close to the time of the failure is a File System QueryOpen operation for:

C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11.5\WTSAPI32.dll

with a result of NAME NOT FOUND

This is followed by Registry RegOpenKey event with a result of NAME NOT FOUND for

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\WTSAPI32.dll

I can live with these constant crashes by saving my work frequently but I'm wondering if this is a known issue for this version ( XI R2
