Using OCM Teams to Support Transformation - What works?:

Former Member

When going through a major transformation, one of the key contributors to success is developing a strong OCM Team to support the People side of the transformation. My thought on what is needed to develop the OCM Team is (or will soon be) on the BPX Community --> OCM Page. Addition thoughts and suggestions of what has worked for anyone forming OCM Teams are appreciated.

Hi,

The following has worked fine for me.

To develop a good OCM team you should focus on the qualitative attributes such as ' hands on experience with the Organizational processes,an understanding of the organizational culture and the like.Popularity and the individual traits too matter a lot.

To form a team the following were the criteria employed by me

1] Good understandng of the affected people, their custom and beliefs -often changes bring about modification in the work styles and some times on the personal life styles.when 24 X7 support was introduced for the first time it was very difficult to get the people on the night shift especially during holidays and functions and festivals like Christmas etc.

2] Reasoning: People can be convinced by reasoning and logic. These people also can influence the abortion of the bad changes from hapening.

3] Good communication

4] identify and appoint Local Champions at the shop floor level as the change agents.People have herd mentality [ though subject to exceptions].Local champions were found effective here.

5] In certain cases we found that aged people were respected a lot [ this was not always the case],so managing OCM was far easy with them.Gray matter really mattered ,especially when dealing and negotiating with Union leaders etc.

My 2 cents

Regards

Ramesh

Ramesh,

Thank you for your comments. I would concur with your observations. The article on Change Teams is now on the BPX OCM Page at http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/bpx/ocm .

Again, thank you for your thoughts on what works.
