CR XI Release 2 Merge Modules

I have the Crystal Reports XI Developer Edition CDs. I believe these install Crystal Reports XI Release 1. I updated this to XI Release 2. Would it be possible to integrate the XI Release 2 Crystal Viewer component into a C# application using Visual Studios 2008? I know Release 1 was restricted to .NET Framework 1.1 and thus no higher version of Visual Studios 2003 could be used. What .NET Framework does Release 2 libraries utilize? (Our application uses fileshare functions across the network, so I need to know which .NET Framework version is used so I can set up the .NET Security using caspol.exe.) If I can use the Release 2 Viewer in Visual Studios 2008, what merge modules should I be using to install the required dlls on client machines? I've read I need CrystalReports11_5_maps.msm and CrystalReports11_5_NET.msm. Are these the only two merge modules i need? Our application also does not use geographic maps, so would we need CrystalReports11_5_maps.msm? Additionally, if we can use the Viewer in Visual Studios 2008, where can I obtain the most up-to-date merge module files for my .NET application deployment? Thanks!

Since it isn't recommended that I use the Release 2 merge modules from within Visual Studios 2008, does this mean i have to use the merge modules for Crystal XI Release 1 in Visual Studios 2003? I currently have Visual Studios 2005 too. I am needing to find the most up-to-date viewer for 11.x that I can use that is known to be stable. Also for CrystalReports11_maps.msm, the maps merge module, is it even required for .NET installer packages if your product does not include geographic mappings?

Support of each version of .NET is described in [this|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsassemblyversionsandVisualStudio+.NET] wiki. Those are all of your options.

Most up to date product is Crystal Reports 2008. As per the above wiki, you can use CR XI r2 in .NET 2003, or .NET 2005.

Thanks Ludek, you've been most helpful! I'll go with the release 2 since it has a lot of bug fixes implemented that release 1 doesn't contain.

Only CR 2008 (12.x) and CR 10.5 (bundles with .NET 2008) are supported in .NET 2008. While some customers have used CR XI r2 in .NET 2008 with some success, for the most part I see them come back in some time with stories of the app suddenly and mysteriously not working, working on some computers and not others, etc., etc. E.g.; as far as I am concerned, it's flaky at best and I would not recommend it.

Since you asked, the links to the msm files are documented in [this|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsforVisualStudio.NETRuntimeDistribution-Versions9.1to12.0] wiki.

Latets SP for CR XI r2 is here:
