Item type in SRM PO is getting changed from Material to service

There is a contract created with item type service. User created SC and subsequently PO against that contract with item type material. System allowed it to order without any issue.

Now user is modifying the PO to select "Confirmation based invoice" option in SRM and system is converting item type Material to Service and resulting in Back-end error:Buffer table not up to date.
