stock transfer from one item code to other

Hi Experts,

Can i transfer stock quantity from one item code to other. the length, thickness, height is same for both the item. We create project wise item so we have two different codes but the item is same.

OR should i issue one item stock with goods issue and receive other item stock with receipt document.
