Hi All,
How are MDM WF's positioned against BPM and CAF GP in terms of performance, flexibility, capability? Which WF should be preferred over others?
Thanks.
AK
Hi Abhishek,
Following are few differences between 3 WF's
1. Cross applications scenarios*
MDM Workflow is not well suited for cross-system, and cross-application scenarios due to missing integration with external services. MDM Workflow is more suited for environment wherein scenarios run within the MDM.
The capability to integrate with external services like web services of NetWeaver BPM makes them better suited to build cross application business processes
CAF GP can also use services for a cross application scenario.
2. Changes in the processes
In case of changes during runtime such as ad-hoc assignment or rule changes, the design of the MDM workflow has to be changed which may be a tedious job.
The BPM , the process can be changed in the design time and can be deployed on to the runtime. This is very easily done through process modeler.
CAF GP process change will require extensive code change in the design time and then will have to be deployed in the runtime. This is quite a bit of overhead.
3. Flexibility of Process
Flexible jumping in the pre defined process is not supported in MDM workflows. At max it can be sent one step back.
Combination of rules and decision will determine the process flow. This can be easily handled through the process modeling and Rules engine
For CAF GP , process can be made flexible at the cost of extensive coding.
4. Ad-Hoc Assignment
Ad-Hoc user assignment at runtime or enhancement of workflow is not possible in MDM
Ad-Hoc user can be selected from a list of user available depending on the rules set. in BPM
Ad-Hoc user can be selected from a list of user available depending on the rules set. in CAF GP
I think BPM is beter than other two. Also For CAF GP SAP is likely to withdraw support in near future.
Hope its helpful
