ESS NWDI move from DEV to QA?

Former Member

We have configured NWDI for DEV and QA, I have released the changes from NWDS and all released transports from Consolidation tab are imported and then in the Assembly tab we have assembled successfully. We could now see the new ESS sca file in the file system.

We don't want to do manually SCA deployment to QA. How do we now move to QA automatically? If I proceed to the next tab in CMS which is Approve tab, do I select all rows and click approve? Please let me know.

We have configured our CONS runtime system as our QA system. The following are the runtime system(RTS) that is configured in our landscape

DEV RTS - DEV

CONS RTS - QA

TEST RTS - Acceptance

PROD RTS - PROD

Thanks

Hi Praveen,

As per your post, in CMS immediately after the Assembly'' tab you have the 'Approval' tab. But if in the landscape configurator view of CMS, in the 'Runtime Systems' tab you have configured your 'TEST SYSTEM', then there will be 'Test' tab in between 'Assembly' and 'Approval' tab. You have to specify the SDM host / port in RTS tab of CMS. Immediately the 'Test' tab will be visible in transport Studio of CMS.

Once that tab is visible, you will see the new ESS sca file (assembled in previous step) in the 'Waiting for import' status.

Click on import button and the sca will be available in the respective system. This sca is deployed as per the test system parameters specified in RTS of landscape configurator of CMS.

Similarly in RTS if you specify the SDM host/ port for production system in the 'Production System' section, a tab by name 'Prod' will be shown in the transport studio after 'Approval' tab.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Hi Sonali, you are correct I didn't configure for TEST and PRD runtime system yet, so I don't see TEST and PROD tabs in the transport studio. I have used CONS runtime system for QA system as said in my first post, is this correct approach?

Is CONS runtime system should never be used?

We have 4 systems in our landscape as said in my first post.

I clicked on approve button selected ESS component but nothing happened other than the status changed to approved.

What is the best way to check if the modified ESS sca file is deployed? Can I check from system information page the ESS component version?

Thanks

Praveen

Hi Praveen,

Yes you can use CONS system, no problem with that.

But as per your original post, you had mentioned that 'TEST RTS - Acceptance'. Has the RTS been maintained in the landscape configurator for so called Acceptance system? IF yes, THEN ONLY you will be able to see the Test tab. But now that you have clicked approved, NWDI assumes that it is ready for transport to Prod. The Prod tab will ONLY appear if you configure RTS for Production system.

You have said that you have 4 runtime systems. But it seems that you have just configured 2 of them in RTS- DEV and CONS. What About your 3rd and 4th system? They should be done for TEST RTS and PROD RTS in landscape configurator of CMS. Unless you do this, these tabs (Test, Prod)will never appear in the CMS transport studio and hence NWDI will not be able to import them in corresponding system.

You can check that the modified sca is deployed (ie its corresponding DCs also) by looking into the System info details and selecting the 'All software Components' link of the corresponding system. The SAP_ESS component will have its location name changed to your track name. This means that it has been deployed on that system via NWDI track.

In your case, you can see it in the system corresponding to CONS(= QA in your case). But Since the RTS is not configured for TEST(= Acceptance in your case), the SAP_ESS will not have the tack name updated in the location name.

Configure the RTS for TEST(= Acceptance system SDM details)-> Test tab will appear-> Select the SAP_ESS component(should be there in waiting for import state). Click import-> component is available in your Acceptance system as well. Similar approach for Prod as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Sonali.

Sonali, thank you very much for detailed explanation. You guessed correctly that we have only configured for 2 systems(DEV and CONS) where CONS as QA. We are migrating changes for the first time so we planned to test against QA first then configure TEST and PRD. Anyway understood that TEST and PRD should be configured only then TEST and PRD tabs will be available and components will be migrated.

For CONS as QA, it worked eventually without going into Assembly tab. Your solution has resolved and clarified my issue.

There is another thread I posted in different forum with similiar issue also has more information on this topic, could be helpful for someone

Thanks

Praveen
